According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
1 Corinthians 3:10
This is why I am here — the grace of God. Each one of us are walking with the Lord and serving in His ministry by His grace. Again, Paul is telling us we are vessels of the Lord. It is not about us. It is about the Lord.
Paul is also giving us this great warning. He is talking to the whole team. We each have a responsibility for what we do with what the Lord has given to us. He is not just talking to pastors; every Christian has a responsibility for how they build on the foundation. God makes you responsible, because you are part of the building — part of the ministry.
When I read this verse, I thought, “Wow, Lord. No wonder there is such great responsibility, such care and such urgency in my heart.” I do not think people are taking this warning seriously today. I think many are building on a false foundation and they are going to cause others to fall. Paul warns us to take heed. That means there is an accounting.
Paul laid the foundation and it was built upon the Rock, Jesus Christ. The foundation has to be solid. It has to be on the Rock. Do not build on sand, it will not last. This is so important. Paul tells us to be careful how we build on His foundation, His ministry.
